Firestore collection group query on document id
Currently, you cannot use Fieldpath.document_id for collection group queries, which is rather shameful considering you can do that in Firebase UI.

Daily usage limitation chart
We were keep getting the Firestore Quota message tough the usage was just 2% in our billing.
After reaching out to the Firebase team, we found out that there are also daily limitations for each action (Read, Write,..) that was hidden in google cloud console.The suggestion is to make the daily limitation chart visible in Firebase, as this error is effecting the users directly.

request.query security rules
currently security rules can only check, "limit, orderby and offset" properties of "request.query" object. if they could check our own custom properties , for example, when users search a collection by id, and I only want them to see a list of documents which contain their id then i should be able to do this in the rules
posts/{postId} {
list: if request.query.id == request.auth.uid
}
- this would be really beautiful and makes it way easy to secure list request.2 votes -
Allow listening to firestore document/query changes without getting a snapshot automatially
The default behavior when listening to a document/query is that you will always get an initial invoke of your listener.
Allowing to change this behavior would give more freedom, in the case that the developer wishes to fetch the initial values asynchronously and then have the changes delivered via the callback.2 votes -
custom gpt to firestore
I wanted to create my own GPT using OpenAI's new GPT builder which has "Functions" in it, and I wanted it to be able to use Firestore API to perform CRUD operations, but unfortunately I struggled to find documentation on how to do that.

Add Creator User UID to the Collection Record Metadata
Will allow further security validation and early detection of security checks failures.
To give an example of why this is important,
I use a Firebase Collection as an API alternative, I create a task record that triggers a cloud function, it allows me to manage my resources effectively and provide partial updates, way more flexible than traditional REST, however with API I use bearer tokens to verify that the identity of the person creating the record and deciding if they are allowed or 401, without UID in record metadata I have to send the plain UID as a field in…2 votes -
Firestore hosting in South Africa
Make Firestore and Firebase hosting available on the new Johannesburg Cloud Region; this will greatly assist developers in launching apps within the continent and also assist with local data protection regulations.

Support deleting databases via the API
You cannot delete a Firestore database with the API; you must use the CLI if you want to do this programmatically. This is problematic as it means you essentially need to create a shell in your application, ensure the CLI is available, authenticate, and then make the required CLI call.

Api to retrieve the list of subCollections present in a collection
We have unstructured data and each document can have different subcollections.
We want to know get the names of all the subcollections present in a collection.Currently we have to iterate over all the documents present in a collection and for each document we are pulling the list of subcollections present in it.
This process is very resource consuming and slow. We have to fire a query for each document present in the collection.Please provide an api something like db.collection("collectioName").listSubCollectionNames();

How to reduce reads for static data
I want to ask documentation on how to reduce the number of unnecessary reads. eg. my product data
let query = store.collection("products");
Assuming I have 500 products, one user click on get products = 500 reads ? If 100 users click that function, then all my quota is gone in 1 minute. Is that right?
How can I overcome this.
Please provide a full example. I have seen Mr Duckworth's presentation in a firebase event, but could not see a good example.

assign server timestamp in epoch format
adding a function like FieldValue.serverTimestamp() that does the same thing but assigns time in epoch format rather than in normal date time format.
it may be a better choice in order to reduce the data transfer and document collection size.

Similar to __name__, allow ordering documents by internal createdAt / updatedAt sentinel value
A document always maintain createdAt / updatedAt timestamp value internally. But these fields can't be used for ordering documents.
For example :-
(This is possible)
await citiesRef.orderBy('name').limit(3).get();
(This is NOT possible)
await citiesRef.orderBy('created_at').limit(3).get();
Currently if we need order by timestamp, we need to maintain a separate timestamp field alongside internal createdAt / updatedAt fields. Then create index over that additional field to perform order by timestamp.
Similar to name sentinel, firestore should provide created_at and updated_at sentinel for ordering document. These sentinel should work without any new index, ascending or descending order.

Enable keyboard navigation in Firestore console to move between documents using up/down arrow keys.
I suggest that Firebase enhances the Firestore console by adding support for keyboard navigation, allowing users to move between documents using the up and down arrow keys. This feature would improve accessibility and efficiency, especially for users who prefer using the keyboard over the mouse or trackpad. Implementing this functionality would make data management in Firestore more user-friendly and accessible to a wider range of users.
