Support Swift in Cloud Functions

Swift is a much beloved and popular language for writing apps on the Apple platforms, but increasingly, it is also being used server side and even for writing cross platform business logic on Android and on Windows.

Being able to share models and business logic between your clients and server would be an amazing productivity boost. And being able to develop in a language that focuses on safety would eliminate categories of issues that can exist if you develop in say Javascript or Typescript.

    Yes! as a developer building swift applications for iOS and macOS, this would streamline firebase and help consolidate code and logic in swift. Would be huge productivity win.

    As Swift is already a 1st-class supported platform, adding server-side support makes sense. It would allow for shared logic and models in client and server side code, and not require developers to change languages while developing ios apps. It’s also a memory safe language, good for security

    I am very excited about this proposal.
    Swift is not only excellent for experienced developers, but also a great choice for a first programming language and people getting introduced to Computer Science.
    I believe adding Swift to the range of options that Firebase offers will have a very positive impact in the ecosystem for Firebase and the developer ecosystem as a whole.

    Swift on the server is growing a lot, other players such as AWS already have support for it. It would be even better to have it on GCP.

    We are interested in the "Cloud Function" functionality. However, we are most knowledgeable in Swift — as opposed to the currently supported languages. This prevents us from adopting it.
