  1. See https://github.com/google/android-fhir/issues/2218:

    For e.g. public open source projects, it would be very useful if Firebase Test Lab IAM could be configured to allow making Test Results, with records and what not, fully publicly accessible.

    According to the discussion on Firebase Support Case 10251960, "Making test results publicly available is something that's not yet possible on our end. "

  2. in a svelte-kit app if you have multiple environments (staging, production) you can specify multiple .env files.

    Unfortunately, there is no way to tell Firebase which one to use so it always deploys using production. and always uses development in the emulator

  3. Currently frameworks only used npm

    This can cause issues if using yarn or pnpm, and npm does not read the lockfile and you can end up with different versions of dependencies in production

    Deployments with frameworks should detect the package manager used

  5. Firebase is renowned for its robust cloud infrastructure and services, simplifying app development and hosting. To further empower Firebase users in optimizing their applications, I propose the development of a Firebase Extension for Storage that enables seamless video and PDF file size reduction.

    Benefits:

    • Streamlined Workflow: Integration with Firebase Storage streamlines the file size reduction process.
    • Efficiency: Users can optimize files directly within Firebase, reducing the need for external tools.
    • Customization: Fine-tune compression settings for videos and PDFs.
    • Resource Efficiency: Save storage space and bandwidth, enhancing app performance.
    • Scalability: Easily scale to handle large…

  6. There is a firebase app distribution api which is fantastic but before you can use it you have to manually click the “Get Started” button. This basic step is a show stopper for automation. I’m hoping we could get an API to do that

  7. While committing a batch to firestore, if a documents breaks one of the security rules, we only receive: Status{code=PERMISSION_DENIED, description=Missing or insufficient permissions., cause=null}
    That doesn't tell me which document in the batch has the issue. Can you add the document path the is causing the error? Potentially in the "cause" field?

    The logic behind this is that we are seeing Crashlytics reports on our android project with these PERMISSION_DENIED errors, and it is near impossible to track it down without more data.

  8. Some issues with Firestore data in the console:

    I've noticed that when loading some records in Firestore, the UI will often load for an unusually long period of time (seems like it just hangs), and then as soon as I scroll the window the loading state goes away and the data is shown.

    Not sure if that's a bug or something, but it's annoying.

    Additionally, several times now I have gone to add data to Firestore, created a new record and added several fields individually only to find upon reloading the page that my authentication token must've been expired and…

  9. There is a limit of 200 indexes per database currently. Sometimes I create indexes in development that never get used again. I do not want to delete indexes "I think are not being used". Having a "Last Used" column for indexes would allow me to know whether or not I can delete an index.

  11. Just as there is "generatePasswordResetLink" to obtain the link to reset the password, I need a method to obtain the link to recover the email, after an email change.

    The same link that is sent in the email when an email change is made using "updateEmail" from the front.

    Since without that, there is no way to use Firebase to reverse an email change through a link in a custom email, and I would have to build a complete flow on my website for this.

  12. Dear SDK developer,

    Apple has introduced a new privacy policy at WWDC2023, requiring privacy-impacting SDKs to provide:

    1. Signed version. (https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10061)

    2. Privacy manifest file embedded in the SDK. (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/bundleresources/privacy_manifest_files/describing_data_use_in_privacy_manifests)

    Therefore, we would like to know:

    1. Which version of the SDK currently meets Apple's requirements?

    2. If the SDK is still under development for privacy-related features, how long until a version compliant with the new regulations can be provided?

  13. The Firestore panel is too narrow.

    I fixed this with custom css:

    .firebase-database {
      max-width: 100% !important;
      padding: 0 !important;
    }

    .viewer-container{
      max-width: 100% !important;
    }

    Please just make this the default. Yes it doesn't look as pretty, but the current ui is borderline unusable when viewing documents.

    The collection list & the document id lists can stay narrow, just make the document view much bigger and fill the available space.

  14. Since Android & Wear OS must use the same package name to be able to communicate, we have no way to split apart Android & Wear OS crash reports.
    This is an issue because we use Flutter for the mobile app and Kotlin/Jetpack Compose for the Wear OS app. The two apps share essentially nothing in common except for the package name and we have two separate teams working on them.

    Filtering for device type sounds like it should work, but the we only have phone & tablet in that list even though there's at least one crash guaranteed to…

  15. We currently have a Crash-free users metric, but we don't have a metric to track ANRs. This makes it impossible to validate a fix for ANRs or detect regressions.

  17. I am deploying using the Firebase CLI with Next.js. I find it incredibly effective and I am very grateful for it, however, I've encountered a bit of a problem.

    When running code with SSR that requires a certain package, an error occurs and I'm unable to proceed.

    Is it possible to use a Dockerfile or a Docker container image that I've prepared myself?

    Thank you very much for your assistance.

  20. The main idea is to have firebase services available in any location that is available in GCP. For example, a new middle east location is available on google cloud platform (e.g. Doha, Qatar), and it will make a difference in performance/pricing to have these locations in firebase as well; especially that firebase services are well-know and used in middle east.
