User level configurations
Its good that there is already project level configuration with dev.nix but I believe Project IDX can use more of the nix features by providing a way to extend the workspace using another .nix configurations that will be only for the user.
Example uses of this is using vim extension, you may use it but it is not required for the project therefore affecting other users or your team that will use Project IDX.
Another is using a specific program that you only use. The list goes on,User level configurations will be great addition to fully use the customization…

RecaptchaVerifier should provide access to the shared secret
I'm creating a Contact form in a React app, which stores the user input in firebase. I'd like to secure the form with a visible reCAPTCHA, and I'm trying out firebase's built-in reCAPTCHA functionality.
firebase/auth/RecaptchaVerifierdoes provide a callback, which can be used to sign in a user, and documentation shows it working when signing in with a phone number. Can it be used with anonymous authentication though? When the form is submitted, I have a server component that saves the form fields to firestore. However, how can I verify the recaptcha before committing the data to firestore?
I feel…

structure and organization of Firestore collections: documentation
Normally documentation about collections is done in a 3rd party tool like notion, jira, google docs (or notepad for the brave ones).
After a while this easily becomes inconsistent due to ongoing changes throughout the project development. The same way as we document code directly in the code file, it'd be great to document collections directly in the firestore console.
For this, something simple like a text input would suffice (ideally with some minimal markdown, but not mandatory). If developers need to add more detailed info or explanations (and make use of charts, designs, videos, whatever) they could simply add…

Suggestion for a Firebase Extension: File Size Reduction for Videos and PDFs
Firebase is renowned for its robust cloud infrastructure and services, simplifying app development and hosting. To further empower Firebase users in optimizing their applications, I propose the development of a Firebase Extension for Storage that enables seamless video and PDF file size reduction.
Benefits:
- Streamlined Workflow: Integration with Firebase Storage streamlines the file size reduction process.
- Efficiency: Users can optimize files directly within Firebase, reducing the need for external tools.
- Customization: Fine-tune compression settings for videos and PDFs.
- Resource Efficiency: Save storage space and bandwidth, enhancing app performance.
- Scalability: Easily scale to handle large…

The ability too see when an index was last accessed
When a project grows to a certain size, you'll likely have many indexes with associated queries.
However, queries change, or get removed, and currently there's no way to see if an index could be safely removed, after a query is; which would be a great feature.

Workspace Appearance
You know that many developers use VS Code and as a software student, I was using it before I met Project IDX. One of my habits is that after logging in to the workspace, I would like to have options such as terminal, help, execute code directly at the top, not with 3 lines, and it would be nice to log in by connecting directly to github in the settings section.

Auth: install, not only authorise, a GitHub app
GitHub Apps are now the preferred alternative to GitHub Oauth Apps. When authenticating with Firebase Auth and a GitHub App, the app is "authorised" but not "installed", which can lead to inconsistent behaviour (https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/61677). It would be nice if the GitHub provider had an option for prompting the user to "Authorise and Install" rather than only "Authorise".

24 hour format for Crashlytics graphics
The "last 24 hours" and "last 60 minutes" graphics in Crashlytics show the time axis in AM/PM format. I'd like to be able to change it to 24 hour format.

FieldValue.min() and FieldValue.max()
Currently the Firestore API supports FieldValue.increment() to atomically increment or decrement a numeric value. I propose to add:
FieldValue.max(value): if the provided value is greater than the existing value on the server, then the field on the server takes this value. If it is less than the existing value, then the existing value remains.
FieldValue.min(value): (the opposite) if the provided value is less than the existing value on the server, then the field on the server takes this value. If it is greater than the existing value, then the existing value remains.
These operators should work on numeric fields AND…

custom gpt to firestore
I wanted to create my own GPT using OpenAI's new GPT builder which has "Functions" in it, and I wanted it to be able to use Firestore API to perform CRUD operations, but unfortunately I struggled to find documentation on how to do that.

java admin sdk doesn't have feature to generate a shareable url for a storage file
The feature is already present for nodejs:
https://firebase.google.com/docs/storage/admin/start#shareable_urls
The same should be implemented for Java.
