  1. Flutter developers should be able to run their apps on desktop platforms, including Windows and Linux, when using Firebase services. For example, Flutter developers should be able to 1) apply Analytics to data from desktop platforms, 2)
use Remote Config to customize their apps for desktop users, 3) use other Firebase services that are relevant to desktop apps, etc.

This would make it easier for Flutter developers to build and deploy production-ready apps for desktop platforms.

  2. When using Sign in with Apple, a default button that says "Continue to the app" appears. Please allow some kind of developer choice to either style this button, get rid of it completely (this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJi_Mo-SdW0 seems to suggest the redirect/popup is not even needed at all and the sign in can happen on the actual login page with only a native apple modal, perhaps the Firebase SDK could allow this kind of flow), or another solution that does not involve an unstyleable button.

  4. Using Next/Image on Firebase App Hosting makes images load slowly. Are Next's built-in image optimizations working with Firebase App Hosting? When a second container starts, does the new container need to optimize every image again, or do containers share image files somehow? When a container shuts down, are those optimized images lost, or are they stored in persistent file storage?

  5. Currently, manual steps on the play store developer console is required to create an application that has Play Store "automatic protection" enabled:
    https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/10183279

We have found that "automatic protection" is error-prone in multi-process applications and applications that include native libraries/code. It would be really helpful to our manual QA process to be able to programmatically distribute applications with "automatic protection" enabled on them.

  6. ostgreSQL is becoming the go-to database for many applications. Adding a serverless PostgreSQL service to Firebase with simple, predictable pricing to compete with supabase would be a game-changer. This would complement Firebase Data Connect by offering:
    Full SQL capabilities
    Real-time features
Easy integration with existing Google Cloud services
    Simplified scaling and management
This addition would combine Firebase's ease of use with PostgreSQL's power, catering to projects needing complex queries and data manipulations. It provides an accessible option for developers who need relational database capabilities without the complexity of GraphQL or usage-based pricing. Leveraging Google Cloud's infrastructure, it would offer reliability…

  7. My company develops and markets a BLE-connected device for stress management. The device is controlled by our Android and iOS apps.

I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY love to have a way to test the interaction between different API levels and smartphones and our device, both for Android and iOS. Lack of this is really the Achilles'heel of any Test Lab - style automated testing facility, and if this feature does not work properly, any bug on the rest of the app does not matter.

I have been thinking of mocking the device via an ESP32 or Raspberry Pi running…

  9. As a developer, I want to be able to deploy my Next.js web app hosted using App Hosting to a Preview "channel", similar to firebase hosting:channel:deploy in hosting.
    Thanks.

  10. Swift is a much beloved and popular language for writing apps on the Apple platforms, but increasingly, it is also being used server side and even for writing cross platform business logic on Android and on Windows.

Being able to share models and business logic between your clients and server would be an amazing productivity boost. And being able to develop in a language that focuses on safety would eliminate categories of issues that can exist if you develop in say Javascript or Typescript.

  12. Currently, the highest allowed rollout percentage is 50% (before going to 100%). While we understand that higher percentage won't allow to compare the groups correctly, having an ability to gradually release a feature from 50% to 100% would be a very nice and common requirement.

  14. Allow validation (e.g. min/max values, length, regex match) with custom error messages on both fields and variables. Enforce validation server-side but also provide client-side validation of variables for generated SDKs.

  15. This is a documented limitation and as such not an idea, but putting it out here to see if it get vote-traction. See the warning at the bottom of the page here:

    https://firebase.google.com/docs/storage/security/rules-conditions

As of Feb. 25. 2025 it says

"Warning: Storage Rules can only access documents from the default Cloud Firestore database when multiple databases are active."

We have a project where we're doing tenant partitioning in both Firestore and firebase storage. The primary reason for creating separate buckets and databases is to be able to have storage in different customer preferred regions, and to achieve other isolations which…

  16. Firebase Realtime Database currently lacks support for aggregation functions (like sum, count, average) and regex-based data filtering. These features would simplify querying, reduce client-side processing, and improve performance, especially with large datasets. While Firestore offers some of these capabilities, Realtime Database remains the preferred choice for real-time syncing. Native support for these functionalities would greatly enhance its potential and usability.

  20. Write Node.js resolvers to enhance Data Connect with arbitrary server logic. Resolvers will be authored alongside the Data Connect schema and deployed to serverless infrastructure. Resolvers can either provide new top-level Query and Mutation fields or integrate with SQL table types.
